Help Us Save – Baby of Shamita Shashikant Parulekar
Dear Supporters,
We are reaching out to you with an urgent and heartfelt plea for help. A fragile, innocent life is in danger, and we need your support to save him.
We are reaching out on behalf of a 1-month-old baby boy, the son of Mrs. Shamita Shashikant Parulekar, who is battling for survival at KEM Hospital, Pune. This little one was born with severe malnutrition, low birth weight (930 grams), preterm birth complications, and respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). His condition is extremely critical, and he is currently on a ventilator, fighting for every breath.
The treatment cost required to save this baby’s life amounts to ₹600,000, an amount his parents, who come from a financially struggling background, simply cannot afford. His father’s yearly income is very low and insufficient even to meet their basic household needs. The family is devastated, and their only hope is the kindness of generous donors like you.
The Urgent Need for Support
India continues to struggle with a severe malnutrition crisis, particularly among newborns and infants. Cases like that of Mrs. Parulekar’s baby are far too common in India, where maternal malnutrition, poverty, and lack of access to healthcare lead to low birth weight, preterm births, and life-threatening health complications in newborns.
According to reports from UNICEF and the National Family Health Survey (NFHS):
- 35.5% of children under five in India are underweight.
- 32.1% of children suffer from stunted growth due to malnutrition.
- Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is one of the leading causes of neonatal and infant mortality in the country.
Despite efforts by the government and NGOs, many families, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, cannot afford the expensive medical treatments required to save their malnourished infants. The story of this 1-month-old baby is a painful reminder of the crisis we need to combat together.
How Your Donation Can Save This Baby’s Life
This infant’s life is hanging by a thread, and your timely support can make a world of difference. Here’s how your generous contribution will be used:
- Medical Treatment & Ventilator Support
- The baby is currently on a ventilator due to his weak lungs and severe malnutrition. Your donation will help cover the cost of NICU care, ventilator support, and life-saving medications to keep him stable.
- Nutritional & Special Care Needs
- As a preterm, low birth weight baby, he requires specialized nutritional supplements and critical monitoring to gain weight and develop properly. Funds will help in providing fortified breast milk and necessary medical nutrition therapy.
- Emergency Surgeries & Procedures
- Due to extreme weakness, the baby may require additional emergency medical procedures and interventions. Your support will ensure he gets the best possible care without financial obstacles.
- Support for the Family
- His parents are unable to afford even the daily expenses of travel and stay during their child’s treatment. Your donation will help ease their financial burden, allowing them to focus solely on their child’s recovery without worrying about how to afford his medical care.

“We are helpless and broken. Every day we pray for a miracle. We are grateful for every person who comes forward to help save our child. Please help us.” – Mrs. Parulekar
